eDressMe

eDressMeThis just in: it’s the summer of the dress. Have you noticed? Suddenly teenage girls everywhere are wearing dresses. The dress du jour seems to be a print cotton sundress with skinny straps, no straps, halter back or caplet sleeves. The waist, if there is one at all, tends to be empire.

It’s kind of what my generation, in a less politically correct time, called a “peasant dress.” Today it’s called bohemian or even Bollywood chic, with a nod towards its Indian influences. But whatever you call it, there probably have not been this many dresses on high school and college campuses since Eisenhower was president.

These girls’ big sisters who have already launched into the business world are also embracing the new fascination with dresses. Their style tends to be a chic mash-up between Michelle O and Jackie O. Their look trends more to sleeveless sheaths topped with tailored jackets for the office. But at night in the clubs, they’re channeling their inner disco divas with retro mini-dresses that are more Austin Powers than Oval Office.

And soccer moms? Have you noticed them pushing their grocery carts down the aisles in those flowing long print dresses? Maybe it’s the “staycation” look, but these relaxed breezy dresses just scream resort vacation. With bare arms and low necklines, these exotic full-length summer dresses are hardly dowdy. Rather, they are very forgiving and reminiscent of summer barbecues, strawberry shortcake, and pitchers of homemade sangria.

Whatever your age or dress style, the best place to enjoy the dress revival is a wonderful dress-centric website called edressme.com. We’re crazy for the empire-waisted maxi-dresses by Nicole Miller, Alberto Makali and Betsey Johnson. We’re even crazier for the edressme coupons found at Coupon Cactus. These include coupons for free shipping, 15% off your order and more. Plus all Coupon Cactus members get 4% cash back on all edressme orders. Hooray for dresses!
