Kerstin Enk and I have never met but we correspond via email all the time. I do business with her company in Germany and she is my contact. She is going to visit the U.S. but we still won’t get to meet. She’ll be in New York for three days and I live in California. But as a former New Yorker, I was happy to give her my tips:
When you are in New York, see a Broadway show at night. Save the daytime for sightseeing. We usually go to the Times Square half-price ticket booth in the late afternoon, get tickets for an evening show and then go get dinner before the show at a restaurant in the theater district. There are lots of restaurants around 42nd Street. It is very lively and safe there at night.
What sights are you hoping to see? Museums? Iconic places like the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State building? Perhaps because you are from Europe, you don’t want to go to museums in New York to see European art? The Museum of the City of New York may be of more interest. Like many museums, it’s on 5th Avenue. So is my favorite – the Metropolitan Museum. Its Egyptian wing is fabulous! And the Costume Institute down below is a must for anyone who loves clothes and fashion!
And on that note, the Prada store in Soho is also worth seeing. It was designed by Rem Koolhaas. And admission is free – as long you don’t buy anything. But for all other New York museums and attractions, get yourself a New York Pass. It’s a smart card that gets you in to over 50 New York museums, shows and attractions without waiting in line or paying admission.
If you plan to visit three attractions a day, a three-day New York Pass will save you $131.40. You can even get discounts for theater tickets and restaurants. Kerstin, you can get additional 2% cash back with a New York Pass coupon on Coupon Cactus. Have fun in New York!
